There is this interesting detail that I want to share with you about the difference between 'High Magic' and 'Low Magic' fantasy worlds.
The common debate around "High Magic" vs. "Low Magic" worlds has to do with how common the magic is in the every day lives of the characters in the story.
As a writer, I've found again and again, that the environment is not nearly as significant as the tension points within the story.
Which, means that I'm not actually concerned with the superficial descriptions of the environment, as much as I am with the perceptions of the characters within those environments, and how the tensions reveal the story.
The vitality of the story operates on a deep level, and if you have those dynamics correct, whether or not everyone in the Kingdom can snap their fingers and light a cigarette -- is really just packaging.
