The Lovers is an interesting card because of the discrepancies between superficial interpretations of love, and deeper experiences. Of course, there is attraction, flirtation and sexuality -- but the Lovers card is also about personal values.
We exercise personal values when we are selecting a partner, and we fight for our personal values when we come into conflict with the people that we have already chosen to spend time with.
When things don't work out the way we thought they might -- that also has to do with deep seated values, and conflicts in lifestyle decisions that encourage people to move on in separate paths.
The Lovers card is not all Rose Colored Classes, but if you're willing to give it a shot, you can find some of that sentimentality in there as well.
