Major Arcana I - The Magician
The Magician is a manipulator in the purest sense -- meaning in both compassionate, and malevolent applications. The world of abstract ideas is navigated with absolute ease. When you are coming up with a clever plan, or when you have an intuitive understanding of how to maneuver through a problem -- you are demonstrating the power of the magician.
The Magician can take abstract concepts, and provide singular, focused action toward achieving a goal which is in line with their original desire.
I would also give Magicians credit for understanding 'responsive' navigation. To receive information, analyze, intuit and respond appropriately to a given scenario requires a nimble mind. If you can pull this off, you will appear magical to people.
To distill this card down to a sentence:
The Magician is practiced at dancing with the focal point of consciousness.
The traditional cards have a position which reflects hermetic concepts. The phrase "As above, So Below" comes to mind. Another symbol which I've included is the Infinity halo.
The awareness of how things are connected is a philosophical concept, relating the union of opposites.
Earth with the divine. Mind with matter. Heaven and hell.
In non-esoteric interpretations, we can take these apparent opposites, and find the wisdom in locating their point of union.
Taking an abstract appreciation for the union of opposites translates into systems thinking, which in turn results in the ability to solve puzzles, by switching between "the big picture" and "a single point of intention".
The ability to switch between modalities of thought, and retain clarity of action is the skill of The Magician.
