Major Arcana: XIV - Temperance.
In my life, Temperance has been a restorative force, which is active in small, consistent drips. The main concepts behind the card are as follows:
- Showing moderation, or reaching a compromise.
- Balancing opposing forces.
- Recovering Health and Vitality
- Achieving a moment by moment synthesis.
I see Temperance as a practice.
Every day, we have choices on what to do with our energy, health, focus and decision making power.
Sometimes, it feels cathartic to get wild and run around the streets with alcohol in your system, holding the hand of someone you love.
Sometimes, you need to be hard, and stand firm about an opinion which is a central value to your life.
In the long view, co-operation, balance, and the slow, regenerative, moment by moment force of Temperance is how we heal our bodies, and form healthy habits. We establish reputations as being people who get along, or don't. We figure out how to be flexible enough to solve problems and adapt, or we don't.
To me, Temperance is a reminder of the conscious decision necessary to move in that incrementally constructive direction with my behavior.
As someone who has gone through a lot of difficulties as a result of impulse control, this archetype is a welcomed reminder which pushes me toward a more sustainable life.
Temperance is modeled by my friend Pi.
I'll be posting the cards on /r/tarot, in the Reddit community. I'll also be reaching out to blogs in the tarot community. It's interesting to see how people respond and reply to the images, if you wanted to check it out.
